Ugly race pictures

Well, first of all, I can't believe there are free race pictures available! What an unexpected treat. :-)

And they are truly classics. I take ugly race photos to an entirely new level. These are at the halfway mark, I think?

This one requires a little explanation. I was briefly confused when I crossed the finish line. I was shooting for 2:20, which my Garmin said I could do, so when I saw 2:24 or whatever on the finish line, I was both pissed & confused, as well as being in the normal end of race pain. Of course, in my delirium, I forgot that I started near the end of the pack, so of course the 2:24 wasn't my actual finish time. But, this picture nicely expresses how I felt in that moment. I like to call this "bitter runner". Also, running apparently makes my sports bra cease to work & my chest slides to my belly button. Or else, I look like that all the time & just never noticed. Hot stuff! :-)

Also, after owning my Garmin for two years, I finally figured out how to upload the information to my computer. I'm a slow learner. I've uploaded my race, but can't figure out how to view the details by mile. Is that possible? Doesn't it allow you to view your average mile pace? I just see it on a graph?

How was your weekend? Any fun race stories? Most bizarre thing I saw on my run. . . a woman in full running gear (but no bib) on the trail, carrying a large handbag. Like, a full sized Coach purse. It was. . . strange.

I'm running a local 10K (it's about a mile from my house, so I can't resist!) in April, but my next training goal is for the Kirkland Mother's Day Half. I want to beat my current PR on that course (2:23) & would love to beat my PR from Saturday (2:20). It's a super hilly course, so I need to really focus on both speed work & hill training.

How about you? What is your next training goal?

  1. I've had that happen MANY times where I forget that the clock time is rarely my actual race time, haha!

    1. It's nuts - I almost wish they didn't have it. But, I won't be fooled again! So I say, but I'm sure when I'm in my 2 hours of pain zone, I'll forget. ;-)

  2. Way to go! Yes, I hate that moment when you think the clock is your actual time. My goal is to place in my age group in my next 5k which will either be the Bellevue 5k or the "Can Do" 5k in April:) Haven't decided yet.

  3. The purple shirt photo is the best one. Other than that, the others look pretty normal to me! I hate the clocks along the race because they're never your actual time! So obnoxious.

    1. The purple shirt photo is so very hot! I'm thinking the lady behind me was having the same confusion about the time as well. ;-)

  4. I love your bitter runner face. At least the photos were free, the first two are good ones, you look very focused!

I am just glad most races are chip timed anymore, I hate it when I show up to one and it is a gun time start. I feel so cheated!

    1. I've only been to trail races that weren't chip timed, but I'd be sad if I had to start in the back (because, I'm slow & always do) & that wasn't taken into consideration!

  5. I can't tell you how glad I am that I'm not the only one disappointed when I see what racing looks like when I'm the one racing. Sheesh!
Great run! So glad your disappointment didn't last :)
Hills! Yikes! You can do it!!!!

    1. Exactly - in my head I look all svelte, with great form & a big smile. In real life? not so much. :-)

    1. I laughed & laughed when I saw it. Well, only after I confirmed that I had indeed PR'd. Otherwise, this would just be a bad souvenir of my failure. ;-)

  7. You take the best ugly race pictures, the last one is the best!

I'm late to the party, but on Garmin Connect, you should see three little boxes at the top right, details, splits and player. The splits will give you all the details regarding average moving pace and whatnot. Hope that helps!

    1. I'm going to have to try that - I couldn't figure out how to do the splits. I'm challenged, obviously. Thank you!

  9. LOL - bitter face. That's awesome! Though I don't think those pics aren't terrible by any stretch.

Funny story - In my first full, I had a photographer catch me not only crying (I am not a pretty crier), but also with fig newtons (my fuel of choice at the time) shoved into my cheek. I looked like the ugliest chipmunk you'd ever meet LOL!!!
